Emily Baer

Hi, I'm Emily

In 2022, Erie voters elected me to the Board of Trustees with a clear mandate to lead with heart and compassion for our community. Since then, I have arrived at the dais and decision-making tables advocating for the health and safety of Erie residents, investments in transit and transportation, economic development, land-use decisions, and many more centering the lived experience of residents who have shared  with me. Leading with compassion is the whole point, for me. Ensuring folks feel safe, seen, heard and valued is the reason I ran in the first place, and continues to be my guiding star.

I grew up in Oklahoma, the second of three kids. My Dad was a veterinarian, a Board Certified Equine Surgeon. My brother, sister, and I grew up in and around his clinic, watching procedures, and generally being transfixed by our Dad’s skillful, healing hands. I learned early on that not everyone found the innerworkings of animals as intriguing as I did.

My husband, Jeff, and I met in high school. We’ve been married for 28 years. We have four kids: two college graduates, a college freshman, and an 8th grader. We moved our family to Colorado in 2000. We lived in Superior and Louisville for 16 years before feeling the pull eastward by Erie’s small town charm in 2016.

I served on the Board of Directors for The Front Range Center for Assault Prevention for 18 years, empowering kids and their communities against sexual assault, bullying, and stranger abduction.  I also served on the Board of Trustees for the League of Oil and Gas Impacted Coloradans. I am a former Girl Scout Troop Leader and school library volunteer.
